Orangutan Island: The Orangutans

The orangutan youngsters who are the unknowing stars of "Orangutan Island" are all orphans, rescued from the jungles of Borneo after their mothers were killed, or from the black market, where they were mistreated and neglected. If they are to survive, they need to learn all of the skills of jungle living that their mothers would have taught them.

• Cha Cha, the Social Butterfly
  Cha Cha, six years old in 2007 when the series premiered, has been with the Nyaru Menteng rescue group since she was 18 months old. One of the most social orangutans in Forest School 103, she loved both the humans and the other orangutans, becoming particularly attached to Lone. Cha Cha became known as the Social Butterfly, and she loves posing for photographs. But she became depressed and anxious when first brought to Orangutan Island.
• Saturnus, the Clown
  5-year-old Saturnus has a rebellious, mischievous nature — which should make the transition to island living easier for him. Saturnus is sort of a class clown and a Casanova wannabe at the same time: He flirts with the girls (especially Jasmine) and provides endless entertainment with his antics.
• Daisy the Scrapper
  Daisy is a feisty scrapper. The 6-year-old Daisy led the Bandit Boys in the daring rescue of Jasmine on the first episide, going up against the much larger males from a neighboring island. Daisy's courage and valor are becoming recognized and respected by the other orangutans. She is developing strong foraging skills as well, a strength that should serve her well in the quest for independent living.
• Jasmine, the Femme Fatale
  Jasmine has always been popular with the male orangutans. Self-sufficient and confident at 6 years old, she is calm and gentle. This combination of traits seems to appeal to the males, both on the island and at Forest School. Jasmine adjusted early and well to the island. She became the focus of Saturnus, who did everything he could to impress her — but then she was kidnapped by the invading Hamlet, and was subsequently rescued by Daisy and the Bandit Boys.
• The Bandit Boys
  This group of 5- and 6-year-old males formed a friendship during baby school, indulging in mischievous behaviors and generally raising hell from early on. Engaging in food fights and wrestling matches, they have a lot of fun together, although they sometimes tease others with a little much vigor. But the Bandit Boys are more than generally harmless troublemakers — they joined Daisy in the mission to rescue Jasmine from Hamlet.
